From BikeBase to Gravitate: A New Home for San Pedro's Riders

Shop News 28 april 2026

If you'd brought your bike to BikeBase in San Pedro over the last few years, there's a good chance Gab was the one who looked after it. He spent years there as manager, and a lot of riders — locals, holiday cyclists, racers prepping for a season — got used to the same pair of hands, the same standards, the same straight answers.

When BikeBase closed, San Pedro lost its proper bike shop overnight. So we opened Gravitate, two minutes down the road.

Why we couldn't just walk away

The closure left a real gap. San Pedro isn't short of riders — there's a steady flow of road cyclists heading up to Ronda, mountain bikers driving into the Sierra de las Nieves, families on the coastal promenade and a tight community of locals who ride year-round. What there wasn't, suddenly, was a workshop in the middle of all that.

A lot of those riders got in touch. They didn't want to drive forty minutes to Marbella for a bleed, or wait two weeks for a service somewhere they didn't know. They wanted a workshop on their doorstep, run by someone they already trusted.

Opening Gravitate was the obvious answer.

Same hands, same standards

Gab has been a full-time bicycle mechanic for over twenty years. He holds Cytech Levels 1, 2 and 3 — the recognised UK industry qualifications — and earned his stripes at Evans Cycles and Cycle Republic, two of the country's biggest cycling retailers. Four of those years he ran the suspension department for the entire Northeast region of the UK.

He's worked on every major brand: Fox, RockShox, Cane Creek, and just about everything else.

On the bike, he's been the reference for downhill in southern Spain for a decade — Champion of Spain Masters 40, Champion of Portugal Masters 40, eight-time Andalucía Elite regional champion, and 4th overall in Spain at professional level. He's also a licensed cycling coach and certified guide, and has trained and supported a string of regional and national champions.

The point isn't the trophy cabinet. The point is that when you bring a bike in for a suspension setup or race prep, the person doing the work has been at the sharp end himself.

What changes — and what doesn't

What stays the same: the standards, the honesty, and the bench Gab works on. If you brought your bike to BikeBase, the workshop side of Gravitate will feel familiar.

What changes: we've built a proper shop and rental hub around the workshop, on Av López de Mena right in the heart of San Pedro. That means three things in one place:

  • Workshop — servicing, suspension setup, full race prep on every major brand
  • Shop — new and used bikes, parts, accessories, and honest advice on what you actually need
  • Rentals — quality road bikes, mountain bikes and e-bikes by the day or the week

It's the version of a local bike shop we always wanted to run.

Not a tourist trap, not a chain

San Pedro de Alcántara sits between Marbella and Estepona, and the Costa del Sol pulls in plenty of seasonal businesses that don't last beyond a summer. We're not that. We live here, we ride here year-round, and we know the roads from the seafront to Ronda, the trails above Istán and Ojén, the wind on the climbs and the shortcuts back when your legs are gone.

Whether you're a local commuter, a winter-sun visitor on a hire bike, or a racer dialling in your suspension before a season, you'll get the same workshop, the same advice and the same person setting it up.
